Heavenly Father is the same yesterday, today, and forever; He is constant and so is His church. When we pray, we must really need it, if it is important to you, He will help you, but you must rely on Him. In order for us to build a cherished relationship with our Heavenly Father, we must be in communication with Him, we must pray. This will entitle us to recieve inspiration and everyone is entitled to inspiration.
Inspiration doesn't always make sense when we first get it, but with time we can come to understand what was meant. Inspiration will never be contrary to the Lod's doctrine, and it will come the moment it is necessary. You can only receive revelation for yourself (unless you are a worthy priesthood holder), not for your friends, boyfriend, or girlfriend.
Moroni 10:5
"And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."
Revelation is sometimes sudden, but it is mostly gradual (like a sunset). Line upon line, is how testimonies grow. To receive personal revelation we must:
- Have a desire
- Soften our hearts
- Ponder
- Have faith
We may not receive revelation because
- More than one decision would be good
- We need to use our agency
- If it is important to our eternal happiness, the Lord will answer. If it's not, well. . .
Covenants are one of the most important things in our religion. In the Bible Dictionary for "covenant" it says:
"Sometimes denotes an agreement between persons or nations; more often between God and man; but in this altter case it is important to notice that the two parties to the agreement do not stand in the relation of independent and equal contractors. God in his good pleasure fixes the terms, which man accepts. The same word is sometimes rendered 'testament.'
The gospel is so arranged that principles and ordinances are received by covenant placing the recipient under strong obligation and responsibility to honor the commitment. Thus the severe conswquences to Ananias and Sapphira, who deliberately broke their covenant and lied unto God."
Baptismal Covenants
- Renew every Sunday by partaking of the Sacrament
- Initiatory ordinances
- Endowments
- Sealing
